French materials engineering startup Lactips has unveiled edible material CareTips made from milk-based protein casein and usable as an alternative for plastic packaging.

Replacing traditional plastic, the bioplastic CareTips can be used to make takeout containers at restaurants, labelling, product injection moulding, and golf tees. In addition, CareTips can be disposed of in either cold or hot water after use – or they can be composted at home.

With six international patents for its material, Lactips continues to cut down its emissions by decarbonising its supply chains for CareTips. The product is specified to have no impact on the marine environment when it breaks down.

Casein protein is known for its health benefits for both humans and animals, protecting us from oxygen, fats, and mineral oils.
