Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, have partnered with Ethic, a firm that helps create portfolios focused on sustainable investment.

The five-year-old firm is a fintech asset manager promoting investing in companies with fast-growing environmental, social and governance (ESG) track records. It currently has $1.3 billion under its belt and creates separately managed accounts under various social responsibility themes.

“Prince Harry and Meghan share many values with us, and we suspect, with many of you as well. That’s why we’re so excited that they’re joining us as impact partners,” the firm said, confirming the partnership in a statement published on its website.

Earlier this year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex invested in the company and now have their investments managed by Ethic. However, Ethic did not disclose what type of stocks or funds the couple owned.

“Don’t you wish there was a place where if your values were aligned like this, you could put your money to that same sort of thing”, Markle told Dealbook in a joint interview with Harry.

The couple said they were introduced to Ethic by friends. They believe their participation would help redefine investing and inspire younger people to be more deliberate in their decisions and mindful of investing in sustainable firms.

Ethic added that it is optimistic that having one of the world’s best-known couples advocating for ESG investments will increase the popularity of this kind of portfolio management.

“They want to shine a light on how we can all impact the causes that affect our communities, bring transparency into how the corporate world sets the tone and shapes outcomes for everyday families, and believe that more people should have a seat at the table when it comes to making progress,” said Ethic.

“With their partnership, our shared vision for a world in which all investing is sustainable investing can reach many millions around the globe.”
