The overall quality of clothes made from recycled plastic bottles is generally good, and there are no safety concerns, reports Koreabizwire.
A consumer watchdog, Korea Consumer Agency, tested the durability and safety of five recycled polyester clothing made by local sports brands available in the domestic market.
The test included checking if the product contained harmful materials and if the labelling followed safety standards. Furthermore, they checked if the colours stayed the same underexposure to heavy sweat or sunlight and if the clothing kept its form, based on the recommendation level, even after being washed.
All tested clothes showed good tensile strength, which is a measure of the maximum force fabric can withstand.
The consumer agency requested authorities to include the recycled material used in the clothes, subject to environment labelling certification. It also recommended that manufacturers indicate the percentage of recycled materials used to ensure the consumers are properly informed with their purchases.
Some of the companies that sell clothing made from recycled plastic bottles are Taelor, Monosuit, and Ugg.
What a garbage article.
Manufacturing may not have added additional harmful materials but that doesnt mean that the recycled material itself isnt harmful.
There’s the issue of microplastics with every single wash. There is also the issue of phthalates used to soften the plastics. Phthalates are linked to endless health issues including cancer, reproductive issue, type II diabetes, asthma and more. That isn’t even mentioning the cancer causing fumes spewing from the recycling facilities.
The impacts of plastic made materal have on both human health and the oceans are enormous.
Fabric durability is absolutely pointless when discussing safety.
