New York-based unisex fashion label, Monosuit, has introduced its SS21 Collection featuring high-tech seamless jumpsuits – or ‘monoskins’ – made from waste sourced from oceans and landfills.

Inspired by the 1968 movie ‘Destroy All Monsters’, Monoskins are manufactured from regenerated nylon whose fibre is composed of waste. According to the brand, monoskins can be endlessly recycled, recreated and remoulded with a minimum environmental footprint.

For the current collection, while the company transitions to 100-per-cent recycled fibre, the monoskins comprise one-third of the waste-based yarn.

From each item sold, 20 per cent of the revenue will be donated towards the development and implementation of this technology to ensure a full switch to the circular design in the nearest future, the company said in a release.

The collection comes with a selection of patterns and colourways and focuses on sheer ‘second-skin’ items. In addition, Monoskin is lightweight, breathable, antibacterial, and has a thermal effect.

“We continue to develop our technology every season, and this approach to production will definitely help Earth breathe easier,” said Maria Agapkina, founder and designer at Monosuit.

Founded in 2019, Monosuit offers clothing made with the principle of circular design with recycled yarn, a zero-waste policy, and antibacterial impregnation.

To commit to a safer environment and sustainable production, the brand focuses on “no overstock, always cruelty-free, seasonless collections, and recycle everything”.
