Packaging and recycling company Visy has launched a locally manufactured, recyclable ‘Paper Bubble’ wrap designed to phase out traditional single-use plastic cushioning.

The product serves as a shock-proof alternative for storing, moving, and shipping fragile items.

Produced at Visy’s Reservoir plant in Melbourne, Australia using paper from its Tumut mill in New South Wales, the Paper Bubble is fully compatible with Australian kerbside recycling systems.

According to a third-party reviewed Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) comparing the Paper Bubble to traditional plastic bubble wrap, the new paper alternative offers significant environmental benefits when recycled:

  • Carbon Emissions: 34 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Energy Consumption: 73 per cent less energy used over its lifetime.
  • Water Usage: 39 per cent reduction in water consumption.

“Aussies want to do the right thing by the environment, and they want products to work. Paper Bubble does both,” said Christian Elbert, head of innovation at Visy Retail Services.
