Simply Cups

Simply Cups, the Australian paper cup recycling program, will now see its recycled collected cups used to create asphalt, lightweight concrete products and in a plasterboard substitute.

Simply Cups has been labelled as an Alternative Destination by the Australian Recycling Label (ARL), providing consumers with instructions on how to recycle paper cups at cup collection locations across Australia.

Rob Pascoe, MD at Closed Loop Environmental Solutions – which runs the Simply Cups program – is delighted that Simply Cups has been recognised as a valid recycling solution via the ARL Program.

“Simply Cups started in 2017 and has since grown to more than 1500 collection points nationally,” he added.

“Around half of these collection points are accessible to all members of the public, via our partnership with 7-Eleven and an increasing number of shopping centres and supermarkets. We also have hundreds of office buildings, schools, hospitals, construction sites and more providing cup recycling at their workplaces.”

Once the arrangements are finalised at the end of this year, the ARL text will be imprinted on all paper cups, including coffee cups, soft drink cups, and Slurpee cups.
