Global luggage brand Samsonite has introduced its first-ever suitcase with a digital product passport as part of the limited-edition launch of the Essens collection, which is made of bio-circular materials.
Developed by LyondellBasell (LYB) – an American multinational chemical company – the collection offers sustainably made suitcase parts, including an outer shell containing at least 35 per cent pre-owned recycled luggage, the total recycled PET interior lining, and 70-80 per cent recycled-material components and handles by weight.
To reinforce consumer confidence, Samsonite introduced a Digital Product Passport (DPP), which provides a thorough review of the production, including its sustainable incorporation, material origin, and regulatory requirements, by scanning the QR code on the product.
Designed and developed in Europe, the new circular limited editions are optimised for the product’s self-repairability, with easily accessible spare parts and a simple repair process.
“We are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for the luggage industry while achieving the same level of quality and durability that customers expect from Samsonite,” said Kyle Gendreau, CEO of Samsonite.
“These new limited collections reflect our company’s commitment to continually innovating our products to help move the world forward.”
