Hyundai Motor Co – the primary sponsor of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – will send 446 passenger vehicles and 170 commercial vehicles to the event – and 236 of them are eco-friendly.
The company will also supply 10 Elec City electric buses.
This year will mark the first time in the World Cup’s history green vehicles are used as official transportation and will help the event achieve its carbon-neutral goal.
Half of the vehicles are all-electric Ioniq 5, Genesis’ electrified G80 sedan, the Sonata and the Tucson hybrid electric models, which will be used to transport VIPs and staff. Commercial vehicles will be used for the players and the press.
Jaehoon Chang, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor company, said Hyundai Motor and FIFA share a strong commitment to make this year’s event a sustainable success through the use of clean mobility.
“By providing our eco-friendly hybrid and battery electric vehicles as ground transportation, we expect to achieve our shared goal of making the World Cup in Qatar a win-win for planet Earth and humanity,” Jaehoon added.
Besides hybrid and battery electric vehicles and Elec City buses, the company offers onsite mobile EV chargers and roadside fleet services.
