Otis Oat Mi!k, the New Zealand-based producer of oat-based alt-milk, has donated research funding to Plant Research, the leader of an oat breeding program.

In New Zealand, according to Chris Wilkie, co-founder of Otis, Plant Research uses the funds in an oat-breeding program, making sure that New Zealand-grown oats are more nutritious than other varieties and to maximise the use of land for increasing the oat yield per hectare.

Adrian Russel, founder and project lead researcher of Plant Research, said the direct support from Otis to support the oat breeding program would ultimately benefit everyone within the oat value chain in New Zealand.

Otis Oat Mi!k, the plant-based business founded by Wilkie and Tim Ryan in 2018, has teamed up closely with the New Zealand Oat Industry Group (OIG), Harraways, and around 50 arable farmers.
