Cale & Daughters – an Australian vegan market specialist – has collaborated with Vgarden, Israel’s leading agricultural co-operative, to start producing plant-based cheese and meat in Australia.

Vgarden Australia – under the joint establishment of two parties – will run a dedicated manufacturing facility based in Darra, Brisbane.

The manufacturing process will start with vegan mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan, along with vegan deli meats such as pepperoni and chicken. Cale & Daughters will also take advantage of the plant to produce their own-IP products – dairy-free thickened cream and sour cream.

“The joint venture between Cale & Daughters and Vgarden will bring together the innovative capabilities of our two companies, by enabling the rapid exchange of resources and IP,” said Cale Drouin, Cale & Daughters co-founder.

He also believes that this partnership will enable them to “minimise international supply chain disruptions and have greater control over internal and external variables.”

“Ultimately, local manufacturing means we’ll be able to maintain price competitiveness and product accessibility while being positioned to rapidly respond to the needs of our market Down Under. We’ll also be able to offer Australian customers quality plant-based products that have a smaller carbon footprint, which is very exciting,” added Drouin.

The Brisbane site will be scaled up to full production by the end of next year and aim to hire more than 50 employees.
