Fastfood giant Burger King has opened its first vegan restaurant in Cologne, Germany, but only for a limited time. The plant-based Burger King Restaurant will run from today until June 11. It will include the fastfood chain’s range of vegan options like the plant-based Rebel Whopper and plant-based chicken nuggets sourced from plant-based food manufacturer, The Vegetarian Butcher. In addition, the plant-based locale will launch its latest vegan menu item – the Long Chicken Patty – a breaded plant-based chicken sandwich topped with shredded lettuce and vegan mayo in a long sesame bun. The restaurant will also serve vegan ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, and Hellman’s vegan mayonnaise. Burger King’s decision to open a plant-based outlet follows a recent series of initiatives that the company has made in the vegan space. While this vegan outpost in Cologne is temporary, opening this location is Burger King is trying to show its efforts and attempts to expand its plant-based food selection.
