Grinder’s takeaway coffee cups – Aqueous cups – are accredited for home composting after being thoroughly tested and approved by the Australasian Bioplastics Association. This certification means the cups can break down into nutrient-rich compost in home composting systems.

Coating with a water-based barrier material rather than with a PE plastic lining while maintaining the shape of the liquid-contained cup, Grinder compostable cups are paired with Pulp Lids, an eco-friendly alternative and plant-based lid made from sugarcane pulp.

“We are proud to be one of the first commercial roasters in Australia to launch these innovative cups nationally. Businesses who use Grinders Coffee beans can now provide a certified compostable solution to takeaway coffee cups, a packaging type that has historically contained plastic,” said Burcu De La Cruz, marketing manager of Grinders Coffee.

The company is brewing more sustainability by rolling out purposeful goals. These include:

  • Fully recyclable packaging by next year.
  • Biodegradable cups and lid.
  • Ethically certified coffee beans by 2030.
  • Net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
  • Converting coffee waste into resources.

Grinders says it wants to continue to support local coffee growers and is proud to contract single-origin communities like the female coffee producers in Honduras, helping them build a micro-roastery and ensuring sustainable farming practices.
