Aussie-based alt-meat brand Buds has rolled out a range of plant-based arancini balls and chicken nuggets in Woolworths. The new range adds to the growing selection of plant-based food in the Australian supermarket giant.
Arancini are Italian rice balls stuffed, coated with bread crumbs and deep-fried and are a staple of Sicilian cuisine،. According to G Foods, the parent company of Buds, its version is made with “mouth-watering” gooey vegan cheese and plant-based mince coated in golden crumbs.
While the chicken nuggets are said to be made with a “familiar texture and taste” that kids and grown-ups will enjoy.
The arancini balls and nuggets are vegan-friendly and 100 per cent GMO-free (genetically modified organism). However, since it uses soy and wheat-based protein, they are not gluten-free.
“We’re offering Aussies a local choice that doesn’t compromise on taste,” said Jan Pacas, founder of G Foods.
Buds arancini balls are available in an eight-pack sealed tray at $9. A 250gm pack of chicken nuggets sells at $12.99.
Buds makes its plant-protein foods in a dedicated plant-protein factory in Australia. “We are creating the world’s best range of core proteins targeting the match to beef, lamb, chicken and pork – fish is taking a bit longer,” the company says.
