While it seems like new companies are jumping on the sustainability bandwagon every day, Hudstone has been consciously producing eco-friendly cleaning products in Australia for 23 years.
Liz Davis, founder and owner of Hudstone, shared that it all started 40 years ago when she was running a commercial cleaning business and discovered that its cleaning products were causing reactions and health issues among employees.
“I recognised a clear need for safe and environmentally friendly cleaning products that also work better than the alternatives,” said Davis.
Previously just selling offline, the 100-per-cent Australian-owned company now sells its eco-friendly and ethical cleaning products online, ranging from laundry detergents to essential oils.
“We were tired of our products going through large commercial businesses who didn’t share the same environmental values as us. We wanted to go direct to our consumers, the people who are everyday greenies, just like us,” she explained
The brand’s product ingredients are fully disclosed on its website, using toxic-free and biodegradable substances like coconut oil, alkaline mineral salt, and natural essential oils.
Because of its environmental focus, the company has a no-plastics policy, uses compostable packaging, and delivers its products using carbon-neutral shipping. Customers are also given the option to use their jars or containers.
“Safe eco products don’t have to be expensive, nor ineffective. When done right, the opposite should be true,” she said.
Meanwhile, the company has recently partnered with the Reef Restoration Foundation, a non-profit social enterprise that establishes a series of ocean-based coral nurseries to help restore the Great Barrier Reef. For every purchase, the company will donate 10 per cent of profits to the organisation.
