The 150-megawatt Carwarp Energy Park in Victoria has entered commercial operation, generating renewable electricity for Australia’s National Electricity Market.
Developed by Recurrent Energy, the solar facility supplies clean power directly into Australia’s National Electricity Market under a long-term corporate agreement with Microsoft.
Equipped with 243,000 high-efficiency solar panels, the site produces an estimated 405 gigawatt-hours of electricity each year, enough to supply about 65,000 households.
According to the company, by replacing conventional fossil-fuel generation, the solar farm prevents about 227,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year. This reduction is comparable to removing over 49,000 internal combustion vehicles from the road.
To support regional grid stability as clean energy adoption grows, developers secured approvals for an adjacent 120-megawatt battery storage system.
Beyond physical infrastructure, Recurrent Energy and Microsoft partnered with Groundswell Giving and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal to establish a community fund that directs financial backing toward local climate initiatives, including projects led by First Nations communities.

“With a long-term PPA secured with Microsoft, an established community fund, and approval to incorporate energy storage, Carwarp is positioned to provide strong community benefits, clean energy, and additional grid benefits for years to come,” said Marx.
Head of corporate, external and legal affairs at Microsoft ANZ, Liz Fitch, added that as modern digital technology increases power demand, collaborative clean-energy initiatives such as Carwarp Energy Park will keep Australia’s energy system reliable and future-ready.
