Australia-founded brand Tote Modern has introduced a range of eco tote bags to add a touch of flair to reusable shopping bags.
Launched early this year, Tote Modern has a mission to reduce single-use plastic bags and their impact on the environment. The sustainable business idea came to Kate Keane and Amanda Grainger, from PR agency Kate & Co, after the pair spent time mulling ways to de-trash the planet.
“When we read that globally we are using more than 500 billion single-use plastic bags per year, we wanted to take action,” said Keane.

“We are environmentally conscious, socially conscious and fashion-conscious – and we felt there was nothing on the market that suited our tastes. So Tote Modern was born.”
“Amanda and I have worked together for many years, and we felt that our combined skillset in PR, influencer marketing and social media could be used to make a real difference,” said Keane.
Featuring minimal designs, the six-model collection is manufactured from recycled materials sourced from used plastic bottles and pre-consumer cotton fabric scraps. To avoid fabric dyeing, the cotton is categorised into colours before spinning to limit the chemical waste entering the environment. All these combinations result in a durable, eco-friendly and recyclable bag that also looks stylish.
Eco totes are available online from the company’s website for A$29.95 each. For each one sold, Tote Modern will donate $1 to Take 3 For The Sea – a movement that encourages people to take out three pieces of rubbish when they leave the beach or anywhere.
