With a mission to fight “fast fashion”, startup apparel brand Leandrop has launched sustainable clothing made of hemp and bamboo. “Why are these materials not normally used if they are so good?,” asaked its founders. “The answer is simple – the industry is not interested in making clothes that last that long.” The clothing is made from a blend of hemp and bamboo that’s 100-per-cent biodegradable and claims to last up to 20 years. In addition, it’s also hypoallergenic, breathable, and has antibacterial properties to prevent body odour. “We save so much water with hemp and bamboo because, in addition to being plants that need much less water than cotton, we bring it from areas where it grows naturally, without irrigation,” they added. According to Leandrop, which is based in Spain and the Netherlands, once the company acquires the materials for the blend, the team will manufacture the clothing in the European Union to ensure optimal working conditions.
