In collaboration with a bio-fabricated materials company Modern Meadow, a sustainable activewear brand Earthletica designed a Bio-Alloy jacket named after its co-founder, Bronte Campbell, a competitive swimmer and Olympic gold medalist.

The lightweight Bronte Jacket is made from 100 per cent recycled nylon and overlaid with Bio-Alloy Shield, both PFAS/PFC- and solvent-free, in which the proteins supply the channel for moisture absorption for add-on breathability but stay waterproof.

PFAS, a highly fluorinated chemical, is commonly found and constantly remains in consumer products due to its oil, stain, and water-repellent properties.

David Williamson, president and COO of Modern Meadow, said the partnership with Earthletica demonstrated the company’s resolve to build a more sustainable future with biomaterials.

“We see performance and sustainability as an Olympic sport,” he continued. “Just like athletes train to win gold medals, we constantly research and innovate to find real-world solutions to the fashion industry’s environmental challenges.”

Campbell saw the collaboration on the product as the beginning of a long-term relationship to “achieve other ‘world firsts’ together, even after the Olympics”. She made its debut wearing the Bronte Jacket at this year’s Olympic Trials later this month.
