Recognised as a wine industry leader, Australian start-up Greenskin Wine has won two major awards at the recent Packwine Design Awards – Best Alternative / Sustainable Package Design and People’s Choice – for its innovative wine pouch.
Entering the market in 2021, Greenskin Wine launched the nation’s first 100 per cent recyclable, resealable, glassless way to enjoy quality wine absolutely anywhere.
The start-up is disrupting the bottled wine market by introducing premium wine packaged into a fully recyclable, 750ml soft pouch.
The award recognises Greenskin Wine’s creative approach to wine packaging and its industry-first mail-back recycling system, which uses 80 per cent less energy to produce than a 750ml glass bottle.
According to co-founder Mike Davies, the award reflects more sustainable alternatives to glass for wine packaging without sacrificing wine quality and that the industry is open to change.
“As the first business in Australia to package premium wine into a format that is not only extremely practical but also environmentally more sustainable than glass, being recognised is a superb reward for all of our research, analysis and hard work in getting Greenskin Wine into the market,” said Davies.
Recognising the market’s unmet demand for premium wine to be packaged into a glassless format, Greenskin markets premium quality wine in 750ml soft pouches – unbreakable, quick to chill, resealable, easy to transport, compact, and completely recyclable.
The creative design also offers a game-changing solution to the current glass bottle crisis affecting Australia, where more than 50 per cent of glass wine bottles end up in landfills.
Wine packaging is the next area for wineries to further reduce their environmental impact and boost the sustainability of the wine industry as a whole, especially in light of the rising concern regarding the high amount of carbon emitted to produce a glass bottle and transport it to market.
