Waste-free hand soap brand Keeper Clean has been rolled out in Australia in hope to reduce the country’s plastic waste.

Founded by Sydney-based entrepreneur Bonnie Macqueen, Keeper Clean features compostable and recyclable packaging components. The foaming soap is formulated with plant-based non-toxic ingredients and stored in pods which are designed to dissolve in water.

The Foaming Hand Soap Starter Kit consists of a reusable, glass soap dispenser and three foaming hand soap refill pods. Aussie customers can purchase the product online or subscribe to Keeper Clean’s monthly subscription service.

“I started the brand when I first moved out of home and discovered how much plastic I’d accumulated, from the plastic needed to move and set up a new apartment, to how frequently I was replacing, rather than reusing, my cleaning products,” said Macqueen.

“My awareness of my personal impact on the environment motivated me to reduce single-use plastics in my home and encourage my peers and family to do the same.”

Since its launch, Keeper Clean has stopped 532 single-use plastic soap bottles from ending up in landfills.

According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian households generate 12.4 million tonnes of waste each year and are responsible for 47 per cent of the country’s plastic waste. The country is working towards a ban on single-use plastics by 2025.
