Paris-based design firm Baguette Studio has created a collection of modular lampshades made entirely from natural wax, engineered to be melted down and reformed without material degradation.

The collection, titled Le Labo 1.0, includes a wall lamp, a pendant lamp, and two sizes of table lamps.

All variations use an identical stainless-steel base and standard electrical components, allowing users to swap or reconfigure the hardware across different formats.

The shades themselves are manufactured using either 400 or 800 grams of a specialised wax blend.

According to studio founders Philippe Gaud and Emma Lohner, the project explores alternative concepts of object ownership by treating the underlying material as a reusable resource rather than a permanent static form.

To manufacture the line outside of traditional industrial infrastructure, the designers built a custom, transportable rotational moulding machine from standard aluminium profiles.

The apparatus mimics processes typically reserved for large-scale plastic manufacturing, such as the production of hollow industrial goods and watercraft, but scales the mechanism down for urban studio environments.

The material composition features a blend of beeswax and plant-based wax, formulated to withstand temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius without compromising structural integrity or melting due to internal bulb heat.

The studio confirmed the organic composition requires no chemical sealants or finishes, resulting in a surface that resists dust accumulation and does not leave oily residues.
