RedCycle has collapsed, leaving millions of unrecycled plastic items stuck in warehouses
The Melbourne-based company has been collecting a lot of soft plastics for months, which is thought to be hazardous to the environment and fire safety.

According to Amelia Fyfield, CSIRO Southeast Asia counsellor, collaboration is the key to addressing the global plastic pollution problem.
is could make the plastic much more biodegradable in the natural environment, for example in the ocean or in a garden compost heap.”
Recycling is the most common way to cut down on plastic waste, but worldwide less than 10 per cent of all plastic has been recycled.
The study revealed that over 250,000 pieces of waste – with 80 per cent as plastic – have been removed from eight key river systems flowing into the Great Southern Reef, stretching from Brisbane to Perth.
While biodegradable plastics are supposed to be good for the environment, they can’t be recycled – because they are designed to degrade quickly.
Any suggestion that older consumers are less receptive to sustainability-driven alternatives than those younger appears to be a misnomer.
