H&M and John Boyega have introduced a new sustainable menswear collection made from vegan leather.
Dubbed ‘Edition by John Boyega’, the new collection features autumn’s key looks constructed from recycled and organic materials, such as Vegea – a vegan alternative to leather, partly made from waste from the winemaking industry.
According to the company, cotton is organic or recycled from textile-production waste or post-consumer waste; nylons and polyesters are recycled, while viscose fibres are from sustainable sources.
“Sustainability to me, means thinking about longevity for the benefit of those coming after us,” said John Boyega, the British-Nigerian actor and producer. “This collaboration has already birthed opportunities for fresh dynamic creatives. Two birds with one stone.”
While the chore jacket boasts a patchwork denim design constructed from collected denim garments, remade into a contemporary style, the checked coat is made from premium Italian recycled wool. Edition by John Boyega is set to be available on October 28.
The launch of John Boyega H&M collaboration is part of H&M’s commitment toward a more sustainable fashion industry. Last month, the brand replaced its plastic bags with paper packaging in the hope of reducing its packaging material by 25 per cent by 2025.
