Boost Mobile, a youth-focused telco business, has released a smartphone Trade-In app, giving Australians a new method to trade in their old smartphones and iPads for cash.

The app allows consumers to check the correct trade-in value of their phone or iPad and acquire a free Australia Post shipping label with a few simple clicks.

According to new Boost Mobile data, 78 per cent of Australians have at least one idle smartphone in their household, with 74 per cent willing to trade in or recycle their old devices. The main reasons for some people not reusing or recycling their smartphones were a lack of perceived value, convenience, and privacy concerns.

The software guides users through a series of six diagnostic tests in order to determine a certain value. Once the consumer accepts the quote, they can return the gadget for free to any Australia Post store, and once the equipment has been checked, they will be paid in cash directly into their account.

“For our customers, the new Boost Mobile Trade-In App means both more cash and less waste,” said Boost Mobile GM Jason Haynes.

“Simply put, one of the best ways to recycle is to reuse, and we are excited that our customers can now quickly and easily get money back out of their old devices while also doing the right thing for the environment.”

Boost Mobile says the introduction of the trade-in app elevates its support for refurbished devices to a new level, giving customers a simple option to salvage value from their old handsets while also recycling them for use in the Boost program for refurbished phones.

The company says an iPhone 8 Plus 256GB in good condition and working order is worth $190, and an iPhone 11 256GB is valued at $405.
