Australia Post has introduced 36 new Mercedes-Benz evito electric vans to its delivery fleet, showcasing its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

This initiative is the largest electric van deployment for the company to date, aiming to build a more sustainable delivery network while reducing its environmental footprint.

These electric vans will primarily operate in populated metropolitan areas. This deployment focuses on the positive impact on local air quality that benefits many people and their respiratory health.

Richard Pittard, chief sustainability officer of Australia Post, said that this is a step forward in building a modern, sustainable delivery network while prioritising environmental impact reduction.

The company said the success of this trial will help inspire the large-scale integration of electric vehicles across the its national operations.

In addition, the new vans join an existing fleet of EVs, which includes more than 3600 three-wheeled electric vehicles, 1500 e-bikes, and nearly 200 electric motorcycles.
